Monovision
Monovision
It is another technique to reduce dependency of reading glasses, bi-focal or tri-focal lenses of people with prebyopia (farsightedness.) Monovision involves correcting one eye to provide near acute distance vision and the other for distance one. The dominant eye (the eye routinely used for focusing a camera) and the other (non-dominant) are focused ? The brain will adapt and adjust which eye to use and when. Depending on types of myopia, a dominant eye or a non-dominant eye may be corrected only one without the other needing to be corrected at all.
Monovision can be achieved via choices of either contact lens or refractive surgery. The refractive surgery techniques offer such as LASIK, LASEK, PRK and Epi-Lasik to create monovision. While the advantage of monovision is the reduction if dependence of eye glasses through the fact that the brain will make the vision adaptation automatically without conscious effort, it also presents some disadvantages. Depth perception may suffer and monovision receipient may notice blurred vision in the “near eye” when glancing in the side-view mirror of their cars or when the vision in the “distance” eye is blocked by an object. Monovision may help some who adapt readily and happily this vision option while some may not be able to adjust. It is recommended the people who are interested in monovision option discuss with their doctors prior to undergoing the surgery.
